Actually, I get Warhol comments all the time. And sometimes, on the street, people assume I'm albino (I'm not, I have barely-detectable vitiligo, cos I started out pretty pale, anyway, and I spend two days a month whitening my hair).

Where did you get that bit about Warhol and green underwear? Cos my source says otherwise:

In his book A to B & Back Again: The Philosophy of Andy Warhol, he described in the most intimate detai; how he purchased underpants at Macy's: "I quickly found the brand I usually use, Jockey Classic Briefs. ..."

Jockey Classic Briefs have only always been white, and I have a photo of him lying in bed in a closed white button-down and Jockey classics.

Thank you. It was taken Halloween 2006, my costume was Orville Reddenbacher -- I was pretty broke that year and already had the white hair, so I borrowed a grey button-down and some braces and spent $4 on a red thrift-shop bow-tie. It took me thirty-five minutes of studying the "how to" diagram I found on-line and re-trying about five or six times before I got it tied right.

There's actually a lot of upkeep involved and it took me many tries before I finally created a bleach formula and setting-time that actually bleached out the pigment without burning my hair off. And even then, the natural oils from my scalp yellows the hair and so I add bluing to my shampoo and once a week I use a toner.

It's less of a hair-colour than it is a lifestyle choice.
